Presentation
Mark Hwang is a Professor of Information Systems at Central Michigan University, where he has been teaching for over 20 years. His research interests are data mining, data warehousing, and information system education. He has been using ERPsim games for some time now and got his level 2 ERPsim instructor certificate at the 2015 User Group Meeting at HEC Montréal, allowing him to teach other faculty members.
Using ERPsim in class
According to him, game-based learning and gamification are very effective teaching tools as they actively engage students in the learning process. He feels like the simulation is helping them better understand the theoretical concepts of his courses.
Using ERPsim in Research
Professor Hwang has written several research papers using ERPsim. He demonstrated that ERPsim is an effective learning tool for online asynchronous classes, as students showed improved learning outcomes and felt more satisfied after playing the games. He also demonstrated the relationship between teamwork and performance during ERPsim games and how important teamwork is for a team's success.
